Welcome to Pre-AP Algebra 1
Thank you for visiting the class website. I am anticipating a highly productive and successful year, and I look forward to working with your child.
The eighth grade serves as a transitional year to high school. Your son/daughter has already had a taste of middle school and their actions and decisions this year will have a tremendous impact on their future. It is my goal this year to help prepare your child for this future.
Pre-AP Algebra 1 is one of the first math courses the state of Texas allows for high school credit. The main concepts to be learned are algebraic expressions, including polynomials, exponents & radicals; equations & inequalities; linear, quadratic, & exponential functions; problem-solving; and critical-thinking skills.
The course is designed to help enhance a student’s mathematical capabilities, as well as improve secondary thinking skills and problem-solving skills.
Students will have opportunities to demonstrate learning through successful completion of homework, tests, CBAs, Benchmark, College Board assignments & assessments, End-of-Course (EOC) Exam, and taking the semester midterm and final exam.
Algebra 1 is a subject that can be learned by practicing. Classwork/homework is an essential daily requirement. Students are expected to complete every assignment or problem that is assigned. The TI-Nspire calculator will be used in the classroom and during the EOC exam.
